Check Up

Hello Hitters,

I just wanted to post a quick note and tell everyone to start watching MLB and study your favorite hitter.

If you have DVR, it's even easier to record some at-bats, then rewind them and go over the swings again and again.

Hope everyone is having a great season so far!

Please let me know what you would like to improve on, or if you have questions about hitting. Leave a comment and I'll get it answered for you.

Stay Focused

  1. hi coach easler. i watched you play with the yankees in the 80s , you were a tremendous hitter. i always noticed you swung up when practicing your swing in the on deck circle. at the time i didnt think that was right but i now know better. my question is this: i tend to hit better with a no stride approach but with less power. do you subscribe to no stride or do you feel that no stride cuts down on power. thanks for your help mr easler. sincerely george

  2. Most Big League hitters take a short sride to get thier hands and legs sarted as they hit. I would suggest you practice on taking a short stride in your approach to the baseball. A Short stride will give you some momentum before start your attack on the baseball. Plus when you don't stride it will make it hard for you to properly adjust to the breaking ball.
Albert Pujols doesn't stride much, but he slightly picks his foot up to get started, which is his version of a short stride.
I will address the swing path to the ball very soon on the blog spot. Keep checking in.

    Sincerely,

  3. And yes, a short stride will help you generate more power in your swing. Power comes from your legs, and you must get something started to properly use your legs in your swing. Plus a good thorough follow through will help you generate the backspin on the ball that will help the ball carry a little farther.

    Sincerely,
